These are abbreviated, de-identified examples of the kinds of contradictions a records-led review can bring to the surface. They are illustrative, not universal — every conclusion in a live engagement depends on the complete evidence available for that specific aircraft, verified against the current applicable requirements.
The logbook described the propeller as original to the aircraft and never removed for service. Blade decals and an out-of-state work order indicated a prior reseal. A reseal is not an overhaul: it does not, on its own, satisfy a manufacturer time-in-service recommendation, and it does not, on its own, resolve any applicable propeller airworthiness directive. The records contradicted themselves, and the applicable directive status could not be shown as compliant from the paper on hand.
Exposure avoided: A contradiction between the propeller narrative and the propeller paperwork — before money moved.
An earlier work order flagged corrosion on flap connecting-linkages and recommended replacement at the next annual. The subsequent annual entry did not clearly document replacement of the flagged hardware. Cross-referencing the two entries surfaced a documented safety-of-flight item whose disposition could not be confirmed from the records provided.
Exposure avoided: A recommended corrective action with no clear record of completion.
After an extended period of inactivity, the fuel manifold valve was replaced, then required attention again within a short subsequent interval. Extended inactivity is a known contributor to fuel-system contamination, and repeat attention over a short interval is a legitimate concern to raise — not, on its own, a conclusion about future behavior.
Exposure avoided: A recurrence pattern worth raising and re-evaluating with the physical evidence.
Following a ground loop with propeller and wingtip contact, removed components were addressed but the airframe itself was not documented as cleared. Cataloging 372 documented conditions across connected structural zones surfaced a pattern of small deformations and fastener witnesses that no single image proved. The pattern was sufficient to justify a defined alignment survey by the repair station before the structure was closed — as a question the records could not answer, not as a conclusion.
Exposure avoided: A concern significant enough to require an alignment survey — before the airframe was buttoned up.
A digital autopilot was installed on an airframe on its approved model list. The same airframe carried a separate engine-conversion STC that changed gross weight, center-of-gravity range, and never-exceed speed relative to the baseline configuration. The autopilot's approved data was written against the baseline airframe, not the modified one. The interaction between the two approvals — and whether the autopilot's approved envelope still covered the airplane as flown — is a question the records raised and that the installing shop was in the best position to resolve before sign-off.
Exposure avoided: A configuration question the records surfaced in time for the installing shop to resolve it on paper.

Depth most reviews don't reach
A records review tells you what's in the logbooks. It won't tell you that an approved autopilot is flying outside its approval because a second modification moved the airplane's flight envelope out from under it. That is the difference between reading records and understanding airworthiness. Stacked STCs, field approvals, avionics and engine modifications, and the way they interact are where value quietly disappears — and where a current, actively-inspecting IA earns the fee.
